Heidi Powell and Timothy Burris of BOOM, the Baroque Orchestra of Maine, will perform works for accompanied and solo violin and solo lute. The ensemble works include Bach’s violin sonata BWV1021 and two works by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, his Chaconne in A major and Sonata Tertia in g minor. Lesser known today, Schmelzer was one of the most important musicians at the Habsburg court between about 1655 and 1680. The last of the ensemble works is Dario Castello’s Sonata #2, a classic early example of the Italian improvisatory style. Solos by Ms Powell and Timothy Burris round out the program.
