Juneteenth-Themed Parish Picnic
After church, join us in the parking area for a Juneteenth-themed Parish Picnic as we celebrate Black Independence Day, the end of the Sunday School year, our graduating high school seniors, and the ministry of Canon Pastor, The Reverend Eleanor Prior.
Read The Rev. Eleanor Prior’s farewell letter.
Our menu will consist of pulled pork, buns, potato salad, and coleslaw with strawberry lemonade to drink. Dessert will be a strawberry shortcake and red velvet cupcakes. Gluten-Free and Vegan options will be available.
This event is sponsored by the Becoming Beloved Community Committee (BBCC) and the Kitchen Committee.
Don’t know about Juneteenth?
It commemorates the day the Union army arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that all enslaved African-Americans in the state were free in accordance with President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
The state was the last in the Confederacy to receive word that the Civil War was over and that slavery had been abolished. There will be more information about Juneteenth history and traditions available about it as well as BBCC members to talk to you about it.
