St. Elizabeth’s Jubilee Center

Essentials Pantry

St. Elizabeth’s Jubilee Center, a non-barrier Essentials Pantry located at St. Luke’s Cathedral, is a diocesan ministry project which seeks to provide basic daily essentials to those living in need in the Portland Area.

Each week we provide items that cannot be purchased with Federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds; toilet paper, body soap, laundry detergent, infant diapers, feminine hygiene products and adult incontinence products.

We also help people apply for jobs and direct people to social service agencies in the area. Every autumn over 500 coats and pairs of boots are given out to equip visitors for our cold Maine winters.

On average, 175 individuals are served each week many of whom are immigrants and refugees for whom English is not their primary language.

St. Elizabeth’s is supported by direct donations of dollars and goods like bar soap, toilet paper, diapers, towels, bedding and other household items.  Because our demand always outstrips our supply, we purchase additional goods with cash donations from individuals, congregations and the occasional foundation grant.  Gifts to support the bulk purchase of high demand items such as diapers and toilet paper are very welcome.

I think that as a family of six the help the Pantry gives is wonderful. I say this from the heart. Being able to get clothing here for my children frees up money that I can use for other needs.
