St. Elizabeth’s Jubilee Center

Essentials Pantry

St. Elizabeth’s Jubilee Center is an exciting mission effort of The Episcopal Diocese of Maine. Supported by eight local Episcopal Churches including St. Luke’s, this past  June 2017, St. Elizabeth’s  celebrated the 12th Anniversary being housed at the Cathedral.

We are:

  • A mission distributing non-food essentials, clothes, and small household items to the most needy among us.
  • A gathering place where people chat with friends and enjoy companionship.
  • A place where individuals can sit down with a member of our chaplaincy group for prayers and for small conversation.
  • A place where every week we can be Christ for others as we see Christ in others.

The pantry is served each Tuesday by our Executive Director, The Rev. Dan Rangall, a number of community volunteers, and a team from one of the eight supporting Episcopal congregations that support the Pantry.  Volunteers spend from about 9:00 to 11:15 am helping to set up, distribute items and clean up

Volunteers spend from about 9:00 to 11:15 am helping to set up, distribute items and clean up afterward.

All are welcomed to visit the Pantry any Tuesday morning to see this ministry in action or to volunteer.

We train volunteers on the spot in the distribution process and in the social and spiritual dynamics of the Pantry.

We invite you to check our E-pistle and Sunday bulletin for the next date that St. Luke’s is responsible for the volunteer team.

I think that as a family of six the help the Pantry gives is wonderful. I say this from the heart. Being able to get clothing here for my children frees up money that I can use for other needs.

St. Elizabeth’s Jubilee Center is supported by direct donations of dollars and goods like bar soap, toilet paper, diapers, clothing, towels, bedding and other household items. Because our demand always outstrips our supply, we purchase additional goods with cash donations from individuals, congregations and the occasional foundation grant. Gifts to support the bulk purchase of high demand items such as diapers and toilet paper are extremely welcome.

To offer financial support please contact: The Rev. Dan Rangall at (207)772-5434.

How St. Elizabeth’s Pantry began…

The Pantry derives its name from St. Elizabeth of Hungary who committed her life to serving the poor and the sick. The pantry began its ministry in 2001 and was housed in several different locations before finding a home at St Luke’s Cathedral in 2007.

What are non-food essentials?

The Pantry distributes those essential items not covered under the federal food stamp program. These items include such staples as diapers, bar soap, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, laundry detergent, and deodorant.

Whom do we serve?

The Pantry is a non-barrier program serving all those in need, and, on average we serve 300 individuals each week, many of whom are immigrants and refugees for whom English is not their primary language.
