Christian Education Committee meets at 11:30 today: Come share your thoughts and learn hear about exciting new possibilities as we seek to re-energize our ministry to and with young people and make St. Luke’s more welcoming to families with children.  Join us in the lower hall at 11:30.

The Explorers are reading Newell’s Listening to the Heartbeat of God, chapter 5, and watching a DVD on Celtic Spirituality.  Join us at 8:45am on Sundays in the chapter room.

The Portland Rossini Club will hold it’s November concert at 3:00pm today. Featured artists will be pianists Diane Walsh and Martin Perry*  performing Franz Schubert’s  Fantasia in F minor for piano four-hands D. 940, Carol Elowe playing piano works by Frédéric Chopin, The Royal River Ensemble (Nan White, flute; Hugh Maynard, oboe; and Virginia Stelk, cello) performing a trio by Antonio Vivaldi as well as Peter Schickele’s Dream Dances. Twilight in the Chapel:  We are delighted to welcome musician Emmett Harrity to our twilight service tonight. Please join us at 5:15 in Emmanuel Chapel for an intimate and welcoming Rite II Eucharist with The Rev. Anne Fowler. We continue to evaluate this service. If you have feedback let us know.

Ecumenical Thanksgiving Eve Service:  The annual Portland-wide Singing Celebration of Thanksgiving will be held at Trinity Church on Forest Avenue on Wednesday, November 22 at 7:00 pm. Please come, join other churches in worship, represent St. Luke’s, and give thanks!  Because of this service, we will not have a Thanksgiving service at St. Luke’s this year.

Thursday’s Theological Study group meets at 7 pm in the Chapter Room.  We are delving into the theology of Paul Tillich’s The New Being and Anders Nygren’s Commentary on Romans.  As Christian “citizens” and “residents” of the New Aeon there are new responsibilities to ponder, and new challenges to meet as we participate in this world, and simultaneously in the New Age to come. (We will not meet on Thanksgiving!)  For information on the group call Bob Hanson at 899 1131, or during the daytime at 808 9897.

Nominations for vestry, diocesan delegates:  During November, nominations (via forms available from the cathedral office or at the entrances of the cathedral) will be open for members of the vestry and St. Luke’s delegates to the 2018 diocesan convention and the 2019 special convention which will elect the next bishop of Maine. Self-nominations are welcome.

Stewardship Update:  As of November 16, we have received 21 pledges for a total of $31,288.00.  Thank you to all who have responded so promptly and generously.  Our Stewardship Ingathering is this morning during our 10:00 service.

Mitten Collection:  This year the Kneeler’s and Knitters will be combining with the mitten tree to collect warm hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and adult socks. These will be given out at St Elizabeth’s Essentials Pantry with some going to Riche and East End Schools. We need both adult and children’s sizes, with socks specifically for adults only, men’s sizes. Please place your donation in boxes which will be in upper hall during Advent in the corner by the Christmas Tree. Thank You!

Altar Guild Polishing:  Come Vergers, Flower Guilders, Choir, Ushers and Greeters. Come people who sit near the back and those in the front. Bring an old t-shirt and join in the fun of polishing Cathedral treasurers. On Saturday, December 9th at 10 am we will be polishing alms basins, and chalices and things you probably can’t even name. We have great conversations and special snacks. And when you see everything glistening like stars on Christmas Day you will be as happy as the angels. No sign up – just show up.
