Announcements July 28, 2017

Our New Website is“Live”:  The same address with a new look – www.stlukesportland .org.  Take a look and let us know what you think!

Albert Melton’s 20th Anniversary:  Many thanks to all who have contributed to the fund honoring Albert Melton’s 20th anniversary as Cathedral Musician. We are working towards our goal of raising $3000 for the composer Alfred Fedak to compose a new setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (evening canticles) for St. Luke’s in Albert’s honor. For those who wish to do so, today is the final day for your contributions – you may place it with your offering or give it to one of us. Again, thank you for your generosity.

Yours faithfully, George Cooper (Sr. Warden), The Rev. David Illingworth (for the choir)

Fresh Flowers & GreenerySymbolic of the Resurrection:  What a fun way to celebrate or honor: in thanksgiving, a birthday, an anniversary, a memorial, while uplifting the elegant nave we gather in for worship.  The flower guild would be delighted to create a fresh flower arrangement that works within your budget.  We invite you to sign up on the flower chart on the bulletin board between the nave and the upper parish hall.  The flower guild will then contact you regarding any preferences you may have.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Muffie Fernald, Chair

Healing Team:  There will be no Team members scheduled through the four (4) Sundays in August or the first Sunday in Sept.  We will return on Sunday, Sept. 10th.

Creation Care: All are invited to join the creation care team at their monthly meeting.  We’ll gather on August 20 at 11:30am in the upper parish hall.

Upcoming Featured Events

September 9:         Camp out at the Cathedral!  Students in grades 6-12 are invited to spend the night at the Cathedral on Saturday, September 9.  Dinner and breakfast will be provided.  Let Jon Radtke know if you would like to be part of the fun.

September 10:      Sunday School/Youth Programs begin *

                                    The Cathedral Choir returns

*Ecumenical Youth Group:  Would you like to meet other area teens for periodic fellowship and fun?  An Ecumenical youth group has formed between Woodfords, Trinity, HopeGateWay and All Saints (a small congregation whose members are mostly from Sudan that meets at Trinity).  and youth from St. Luke’s have been invited to join in the fun.   I had a great meeting with Katie Holicky, who is the youth group leader and feel really excited about participating in this new interdenomenational venture.  Give me a shout if you’re interested and we’ll connect with the others by having a gathering here at St Luke’s! Jon Radtke

September 17:      Welcome Home Dean Shambaugh!

September 24:      Time & Talent Search (Information Fair)*

*Time and Talent: The creativity and enthusiasm of this congregation are remarkable. Did you know there are already nearly 40 different ministries, projects and committees at work in this Cathedral, and ideas for more?  This fall, you will have the opportunity to join in.  One component of our Stewardship campaign this year will be a Time and Talent solicitation.  We will ask you to support the Cathedral financially, of course, but also in ways to help make St. Luke’s what you want it to be.  Stay tuned.
